Malé, Maldives – Former Communications Minister Maleeh Jamal has said that he will soon be submitting a request to the Parliament to request additional information regarding former President of Maldives and current Speaker of the Parliament receiving two salaries.

The two salaries which Maleeh refers to are the allowances Nasheed receives as Former President and the salary he currently receives as Speaker of the Parliament.

In a tweet Maleeh sent out, he said that he will be submitting an RTI (Right to Informmation) form the Parliament to find more information about Nasheed’s salaries. He also added that based on the raw data available, Nasheed receives MVR 265,419.70 monthly from tax payer money and that he is going to request a break down of this sum, after which, he would reveal the hidden truths regarding the matter. He also added that this amount would relieve 17 individuals from poverty every month.

A term is 5 years. Taking the money worth a term after only serving 2.5 years as President is violating public money. The President receives MVR 100,000 on a monthly basis. President Nasheed takes more than double this amount even now.

Maleeh’s outbursts against the government comes after his recent removal from office after a Parliamentary no confidence vote, following which, he has joined the opposition.
