Faafu Atoll, Maldives — The government plans to place two islands of Faafu Atoll up for bidding for the purpose of developing resorts.

President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced this while speaking at the “Rahvehi Fathis” Campaign that was held last night with the candidates who were applying for the Faafu Atoll council in the upcoming local council elections.

While speaking at the event, President Solih stated that as the government wishes to widen the tourism activities in Faafu Atoll, two islands in the atoll has been opened for bidding for resorts to be developed in them. President Solih stated that the two islands opened for bidding are Jinnathugau and Enbulufushi.

President Solih also expressed concerns over the undeveloped islands that were handed over for the purpose of resort development during the presidency of Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Three islands were handed for resort development by the former government are Himithi, Mushimasgili and Maafushi.

As no project is currently ongoing or in progress in these three islands, we are in contact with the Tourism Ministry to find a quick solution for it.
