Hulhumale’, Maldives —The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has revealed that 11 positive Covid-19 cases have been recorded from the Fiyavathi children’s home for children in the State’s care located in Hulhumale’.
According to HEOC, the first Covid-19 case from Fiyavathi Orphanage was found on March 18 and since then, five employees of the orphanage and six children have tested positive for Covid-19.
HEOC informed that contact tracing is currently ongoing for the positive cases from Fiyavathi and stated that so far, the health officials have traced 20 contacts and sent their samples for testing.
The number of Covid-19 cases has been on a rise since the new year began with the country recording over 100 daily confirmed Covid-19 cases. Over the past 24 hours, HEOC revealed that 140 cases were recorded from the country and that at present, the number of positive cases among the atolls of Maldives is also very high with a total of 207 active Covid-19 cases.
Maldives has recorded a total of 22,513 Covid-19 cases since the virus outbreak took place in March out of which currently there are 2,436 active cases remaining. While 20,004 people have completely recovered from the virus, 66 people have passed away.
