R. Alifushi, Maldives – A two year old child has tested positive for Covid-19 in the Alifushi island of Raa Atoll, due to which the island has now been placed under monitoring until further notice.
Local media outlet “Sun” reported that according to the President of the Island Council of Alifushi, the child who tested positive today, arrived on the island on the 14th of March, and was in quarantine since the 19th.
With this, all unauthorized travel to and from the island has been banned until further notice, as authorities initiate contact tracing efforts to determine the situation on the island as well as control further spread.
Along with Alifushi, Gdh. Thinadhoo was also placed under monitoring today, following the discovery of 5 new cases of Covid-19 from the island as well.
So far, more than 23,300 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives, out of which, 20,529 patients have made full recoveries, while 2,635 cases still remain active.
