Malé, Maldives – The military relations between US and Maldives have been reaffirmed.
The US Army committed this statement in a memento presented to the Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal by the Deputy Commander of the US Army Pacific, Major General Daniel F McDaniel on his current visit to the Maldives.
In the memento, the US Army applauded efforts by the Maldives National Defence Force to improve its capability.
The US had been offering its military expertise and equipment to MNDF as well as its operation in the areas under MNDF command, and providing assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Maldives and US signed a Defense Framework Agreement in 2019 that has enhanced the defence cooperation between the two countries.
Major General McDaniel also attended the graduation of the US-Maldives joint training exercise ‘Black Marlin’. Major General Abdulla Shamal thanked the Major General McDaniel and 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade for the new and extremely successful initiative.
