The phone numbers and account details of approximately 533 million Facebook user’s leaked by a low low level hacking forum on Saturday for the world to see for free.
The information of the 533 million Facebook users that were leaked included of their phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birth dates, bios, and in some cases their email addresses as well.
As provided by the leaker, the information of Facebook users from a total of 106 countries —Including Maldives!— were leaked for any low-skilled cybercriminals to access. While the personal data of 86,337 Facebook users from the Maldives have been publicized by the leaker, over 32 million records of the users in the US were leaked as well.
Facebook users should be alert to “social engineering attacks” by people who may have obtained their phone numbers or other private data in the coming months as per intelligence sources.
The data of a total 533,313,128 Facebook Users is currently being offered in 106 separate download packages, with the data split on a per-country basis. Although anyone can access the forum, the download links for these packages are only available to users who bought forum credits.
This is not the first time the personal data of Facebook users have been leaked. A Facebook spokesperson informed ‘Insider’ that the data was scraped due to a vulnerability that the company patched in 2019.
