Malé, Maldives – A Webinar on social peace and relationship building named “The role of religious scholars for a cohesive community – peacebuilding through religious education” aimed at preventing radicalization in the Maldives has started yesterday.
This webinar aims to use Islamic statements to increase involvement of Islamic scholars in establishing a peaceful and caring community, acknowledge ways to keep individuals away from radical ideology, improve the talent of critical thinking, educating on digital media, normalizing endurance and to teach the tradition of respecting the protection of the rights of others and their belongings.
Kicking off the webinar, National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC)’s Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor highlighted the importance of Islamic Scholars to prevent clashes within communities due to radicalization in countries such as Maldives- with one religion and one race.
The webinar is held as a joint effort by the NCTC, The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Islamic University of Maldives, and India’s Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.
Webinar Sessions are carried out by Islamic University of Maldives Vice Chancellor Dr. Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa, Sheikh Ust. Ibrahim Ahmed, IDSA’s Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Centre Dr. Adil Rasheed and Islamic University Consultant Dr. Abdul Haqq Baker
60 Maldivian Islamic Scholars are participating in the three day seminar. NCTC’s digital partner is telecom company Ooredoo Maldives for the event.
