Multiple contacts after quarantine violation in Addu including students

Addu City, Maldives – Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) informs that a positive case has violated the Covid-19 quarantine protocol and lead to multiple direct contact including school students.

Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq informs that 14 people in home quarantine have tested positive for Covid-19. This includes 6 Maldives and 8 foreigners. Of which, one individual has violated quarantine and met with multiple people in Hithadhoo district. AEH informs that this individual is also refusing to cooperate with health authorities in contact tracing.

This individual who tested positive on 6 April 202 has contacted 17 people directly. This includes Sharafuddin School students, contacted while the individual was mingling in community areas. The students are now in home isolation as per the guidance of Ministry of Education and AEH.

The school will continue classes as usual although contact tracing is in progress.

AEH informs that HPA has not initiated random sampling and monitoring status for the Hithadhoo district or Addu City as of present.
