Direct flights between Portugal and Maldives to start in July

Maldives – Portuguese airline based in São Sebastião, Ponta Delgada in the Azores, SATA Air Açores has announced to start direct flights between Maldives and Portugal.

Charter flights will be operated between the two countries as an agreement has been signed between Maldivian travel agency In Maldives Pvt Ltd and the Portuguese government. To officially mark the beginning of these flights, on May 20, a charter flight is set to come to Maldives. It was revealed that many Portuguese travel agents, investors and wealthy people will come to Maldives on this flight next month.

Starting from July, a weekly flight between the capital of Portugal, Lizbon, and Maldives is set to operate. Portugal tourists often come to the high and middle ranged resorts of the Maldives. In Maldives Pvt Ltd stated that due to these flights in the off season, many resorts will benefit from the flights. In Maldives Pvt Ltd also promised that the these flights will operate to Maldives in the future.

A direct flight from Portugal to Maldives would facilitated tourist from countries such as Span and Morocco to visit Maldives. Portugals border was opened just last week after the Covid-19 pandemic. More than 800,000 people had gotten positive for Corona in Portugal, while the current situation of the country is much better.
