5 additional Covid-19 cases confirmed in Hulhumeedhoo

Addu City, Maldives – Additional 5 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Addu City Hulhumeedhoo.

Officials have revealed that the new 5 cases are contacts of the previous positive cases on the island.

The first case in the cluster was a crewmember onboard the “Newline” boat which travelled to Hulhumeedhoo from the capital Malé. Further testing revealed more positive crewmembers, in addition to a random sample positive case.

The ward’s Health Centre has advised all residents to wear masks and stay home, stating the the covid situation on the island is ” very bad “.

The Health protection Agency (HPA) has put Addu City under monitoring status until further notice, after an individual was found to be positive after consulting the Hithadhoo flu clinic in Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) and has several contacts including high risk category people.

This is the second time Addu City has received monitoring status, with the first being due to the Aviation Cluster, which was first seen in two contacts of a team who arrived from Male’ for an Aviation Security Command training in Addu City.
