Revote commences for local council election

Malé, Maldives – Revote for seats in the Local Council Election (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee elections (WDCE) are in progress starting from 09:00 today.

The revote has begun in 12 islands in the Maldives for selected seats from the LCE and WDCE that took place on 10 April 2021.

For LCE, revotes are taking place in HA. Thakandhoo, B, Kihaadhoo, M. Raimandhoo, F. Dharanboodhoo, Th. Gaadhiffushi for one seat while in L. Maavashu 2 seats are being contested.

As for WDCE, elections are taking place for tied seats in HA. Uligamu, Sh. Magoodhoo, R. Maakurathu, B. Kendhoo, V. Fulidhoo, and L. Kalhaidhoo.

The elected officials are to be sworn in this month, sometime after Eid according to Local Government Authority.

The elections are being held at a time when Maldives has a record number of Covid-19 cases, with the daily positive cases at 465 cases bringing active cases to 4,978.
