JUST IN: Discussions in progress for stricter Covid-19 measures – President Solih

Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has just tweeted that discussions are in progress today to implement stricter measures against the Covid-19 pandemic in the Maldives.

The president has said this while Maldives has record high number of daily active cases, with 508 cases recorded today.

The increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Maldives is greatly concerning. I advise again to adhere to [Covid-19] safety measures. Today, we are having discussions to implement stricter measures.

HPA has recently announced a ban on inter-island travel starting from May 4, 2021 onward to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the Maldives.

The island nation recorded 508 cases yesterday, of which 276 were from the Malé area, while 185 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. 25 islands are under monitoring status and 6 islands have recorded over a 100 cases. In addition, there are 1,902 active cases in the islands while the total active cases in the country are at 5.594.
