Prime suspect Adhuham detonated the IED: Police

Malé, Maldives – Police identified that Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, 25 years old as the prime suspect who detonated the IED.

Adhuham was identified by foot prints. Police tracked suspect’s movements and observed that he met with another suspect, Mujaaz Ahmed, 21, Ma. Feyruge, Malé, after the IED was detonated.

The two suspects met at a park and proceeded into a guesthouse. Their movements are currently being analyzed.

Prime suspect Adhuham and other suspects have a prior records of minor crimes, including theft and drugs. He was on the phone throughout the attack. SIM cards and phones were bought close to the event. Police is investigating the calls and analysing the caller identities. The suspects were in contact until recently according to CP Hameed.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz said that the motive cannot be released until the final phase of the investigation.

The third arrested suspect is Thahumeen Ahmed, 32, Folheymaage, GA.Kondey. Police cannot release the information of the fourth suspect due to broader investigative procedures.
