BREAKING: Maldives records second Covid-19 death this morning

Malé, Maldives – Maldives has recorded a second Covid-19 death this morning.

According to the information received, an 85 year old man taken to B. Eydhafushi Hospital was declared dead at 08:30.

This is the 86th Covid-19 related death in the Maldives.

This comes while 80 percent of ICU beds in Malé area have been filled due to the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in the country. While Maldives has been recording Covid-19 deaths on a daily basis in the past couple of days, 9 deaths were recoded in last Thursday and Friday.

In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that 1,091 cases were recorded in the country yesterday, out of which 933 were from the Malé area, while 147 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 06 cases from operational resorts, 03 cases from live aboard and 02 from islands under development which brought up the total active cases in the country to 9,423.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 35,815 out of which 26,299 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 9, 2021.
