BREAKING: 1,467 additional cases recorded in Maldives!

Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has recorded a total of 1,467 Covid-19 cases today.

According to HPA, the figures include 939 cases from the past 24 hours and the remaining 528 cases were from backlogged samples.

In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 1,467 cases, 1,267 were from the Malé area, while 182 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 18 case from operational resorts which brought up the total active cases in the country to 15,003.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 42,775 out of which 27,672 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 14, 2021. 

While the country is currently going through one of the worst waves that has hit the country in terms of the pandemic, currently there are 290 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.

While Maldives recoded four additional Covid-19 deaths today, the total number of deaths has reached a 91. The deaths recorded today include an 86 year old Maldivian male who was being treated at Hulhumalé Covid Facility and was declared as deceased at 02:24 earlier this morning. 

The second death recorded was of an 64 year old Maldivian male who passed away at Hulhumalé Covid Facility away at 06:30 while the third person was an 86 year old female who was being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital ICU and was declared dead at 09:05. 

According to HPA, the fourth death of the day was of a 78 year old Maldivian Malé brought to IGMH ER and was declared dead at 12:48.
