Malé, Maldives – A group of Maldivian youth have distributed 2,000 Palestine flags ahead of the “Maldives with Palestine” protest today.
Palestine flags are in high demand in the Maldives after protests are planned for today from 16:00 to 18:00 to demand international attention for the Gaza attacks and show solidarity for the Palestinian people. With the escalating Covid-19 crisis, the protest is to be held at balconies by displaying and waving the Palestine flags.
With growing demand, some are selling the flags for profit while others pledge a percentage of profits to Palestine. Some are getting creative with the flags by creating face masks, while others are sewing and printing flags.
While the balcony event is to be held at the greater Malé area, a peaceful protest using cars and motorcycles are to be held earlier today.
According to the most recent reports, at least 212 people, including 61 children, have been killed in Gaza since the latest violence began more than a week ago. Some 1,500 Palestinians were also wounded.
Israel has reported 10 dead in the past week, including two children.
