Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency says that four people have died in relation to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.
Today at 08:07 am a 66 year old Maldivian man admitted at Hulhumalé facility has passed away. This is the first death recorded today.
Last night at 08:25 pm a 39 year old Maldivian woman admitted at Hulhumalé facility passed away, while a 59 year old Maldivian man admitted at the same facility succumbed to the disease at 16:15. An additional death was recorded at 12:02 as a 48 year old Maldivian man admitted at Hulhumalé facility passed away.
These are the 124th, 123rd, 122nd, and 121st COVID-19 deaths recorded in the Maldives in the past 24 hours respectively.
Maldives is currently going through the worst wave of Covid-19 that has hit the country since the pandemic. Cases are escalating in the islands with limited infrastructure to handle treatment, and authorities rushing to increase capacity in both Malé and islands.
In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 1,960 cases recorded yesterday, 1518 were from the Malé area, while 431 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 11 case from operational resorts which brought up the total active cases in the country to 22,421.
With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 54,365 out of which 31,812 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 22, 2021. Maldives has recorded a total of 124 Covid-19 deaths since the pandemic began.
