Special arrival period extension introduced for foreign employees

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Ministry of Economic Development has introduced a Special Extension option for those entering the Maldives under Work Permit Entry and Employment Approval, to extend the arrival duration.

The current guidelines state that a 90 day period is given for entry into Maldives after the approval is issued. However, due to the travel restrictions globally, this is a major concern for workers.

The Economic Ministry says that this measure is taken due ease the difficulties faced.

Under the new guideline, the foreign employees who wish to enter the Maldives but are unable to due to extenuating circumstances can apply for a Special Extension. Those who are unable to enter the Maldives within 90 days can now apply for Special Extension 48 before the 90 days expires via email at wp@trade.gov.mv.
