Maldivians can enter Russia via direct flights only

Malé, Maldives – Maldives Foreign Ministry has reminded the public to remain up to date on travel rules and regulations when travelling to Russia.

While all Maldivians, except those travelling for education, employment and permanent residence, are eligible for a 90 day on-arrival visa upon entry to Russia under the “Agreement between the government of the Republic of Maldives and the government of the Russian Federation on mutual exemption of visa requirements for nationals of the Republic of Maldives and for nationals of the Russian Federation”, implemented on 25 July 2019, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, border restrictions have been imposed by Russia.

With these new travel restrictions, Maldivians can now travel to and from Russia only on direct flights, according to the Foreign Ministry. The Ministry also advised travellers to check the latest updates on travel regulations before travelling, as they may change due to Covid-19 status.

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism of Maldives, Russia has the second highest number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives with 42,417 arrivals.
