Gnaviyani Atoll, Maldives – Vice President Faisal Naseem discussed impediments to development in Fuvahmulah City that have occured, with representatives from Fuvahmulah City.
In a virtual meeting kept today afternoon, VP Faisal discussed in two sessions about the impediments to development projects in the city, with representatives of several institutions in Fuvahmulah City.
The Mayor and Council members as well as members of Parliament representing Fuvahmulah City participated in the meeting. In addition, representatives from Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) also joined the discussions.
The first session was an extensive analysis on how to enhance water drainage in the city, due to the recent issues of flooding in Fuvahmulah. Various ideas were exchanged in the discussion such as upgrading the existing water drainage system by connecting it to undeveloped roads, and removing channels under the drainage system blocks.
The discussion also anchored the challenges at Fuvahmulah Hospital along with difficulties in disposing waste. They also addressed the restrictions and the hardships people are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the fourth and biggest wave of the virus has hit the Maldives, islands with highest populations are suffering more, with increasing number of positive cases. Fuvahmulah has also been placed under curfew along with other restrictions, to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
