President Solih ordered changes to Special Protection Group of MNDF

Malé, Maldives – President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has informed Defence Minister Maria Didi to bring changes to the Special Protection Group of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), who are responsible for the security of high-level diplomats in the country.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Mabrook Azeez tweeted saying that the President has announced for changes to be brought to the Special Protection Group to further strengthen its services. However, exact details regarding the announcement have not yet been announced.

While Defence Minister Maria was informed to bring changes to the association, it was revealed yesterday that the commanders of the group had been changed.

The current appointments are Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Muiz Mustafa as the Commanding Officer of SPG and Major Moosa Rameez as the Deputy Commanding Officer.

The Parliament of Maldives is currently investigating the security breach of Former President and Speaker of the Parliament following the terror attack on May 6 as well as some security details of the speaker being leaked on social media.
