Malé, Maldives – A 10 year old has passed away due to Covid-19 marking the first child fatality in the island nation to the virus.
According to the family, the child had tested positive for the virus a few days back and the symptoms worsened in the past two days. The girl had passed away after being taken to IGMH emergency room following breathlessness.
According to sources, she was unconscious when she was taken to the ER after the ambulance reached the girls home after more than two hours since they had called.
While this is the first casualty recoded on the second day of this month, the island nation recorded 8 deaths yesterday alone. Maldives also recorded 88 deaths last month alone which has brought the total fatalities to 170 including this mornings death.
According to HPA, there are currently 240 children under the age of 18 who are being treated for Covid-19 in Maldives. Maldives currently has a total of 24,035 active cases out of the total 65,164 cases recorded in the Maldives. The country has recorded a total of 40,951 recoveries till date.
