Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported that 648 Covid-19 cases had been reported today out of the 3,832 samples taken.
In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 648 cases, 349 were from the Malé area, while 270 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 13 case from operational resorts and 16 cases from islands under development which brought the total active cases in the country to 22,375.
With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 66,516 out of which 43,959 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of June 3, 2021.
While the country is currently going through one of the worst waves that has hit the country in terms of the pandemic, currently there are 213 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.
Maldives has recorded 174 Covid-19 related deaths since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, doctors are warning that Maldives that Covid-19 is out of control in the country, and everyone has to acknowledge instead of blaming one another to control the crisis. The healthcare workers are stretched to their limits.
