Covid-19: Additional death recorded, total at 175!

Bandidhoo, Dh. Atoll – Health Protection Agency has reported that a 77 year old Maldivian male has passed away from Dh. Atoll Bandidhoo.

According to HPA the individual had passed away at 11:17 this morning brining the death toll in the island nation to 175.

HPA has also reported a death of a 63 year old Maldivian male last night at 22:53 at Hulhumalé Medical Facility which was the 174th casualty in the country.

While the country is currently going through one of the worst waves that has hit the country in terms of the pandemic, currently there are 213 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.

In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 648 cases recorded yesterday, 349 were from the Malé area, while 270 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 13 case from operational resorts and 16 cases from islands under development which brought the total active cases in the country to 22,375.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 66,516 out of which 43,959 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of June 3, 2021.
