CP Hameed summoned to Parliament 241 Committee for questioning

Malé, Maldives – Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has been summoned to the Parliamentary Committee on National Security for questioning regarding the security breach of Former President and Current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on May 6 terror attack.

The Parliament tweeted stating that CP Hameed is the first personnel to be summoned to the committee over the investigation following the May 6 terror attack. Other policemen in addition to CP Hameed have also been notified to be summoned to the committee.

Maldives Police Service has agreed to allow for individual officers to be summoned to the committee. However, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has decided against letting individual officers attend the Committee for questioning. They stated that any required information will be given by the authority itself.

Speaker Nasheed is currently receiving treatment in Germany following the terror attack on May 6. While he has been discharged by the hospital, the Speaker is to remain in the country for about a month as he has to get regular checkups. A certain date for his return has not yet been announced.

The police is currently investigating the cause behind the attack on the Former President. 4 individuals have been arrested so far, all of them indicating radicalisation. The Parliamentary Committee is investigating into the security breach of the Speaker following the terror attack.
