Former First Lady Nasreena tests positive for Covid-19

Malé, Maldives – Former first lady and wife of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has tested positive for Covid-19.

Official from Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) confirmed to local media Mihaaru that the Former First Lady Nasreena Ibrahim tested positive for Covid-19. However, no details regarding her current situation has been revealed.

While the former first lady tested positive, it is known that the Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom remains negative for the virus at present. He tested positive and was treated for Covid-19 at Dharumavantha Hospital from August 25 to September 14.

Maldives recorded 295 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday with 138 of them being from Malé and 146 from inhabited islands along with 11 new cases from operational resorts. Maldives is currently going through the worst wave of Covid-19 to have hit the country since the pandemic started. Although the daily cases are gradually decreasing, health officials advise the public to remain at home and abide by preventive guidelines to minimize the spread of the disease.
