Covid-19: Death toll in Maldives rises to 197

Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed the 197th death in Maldives due to Covid-19.

HPA reports that an 83 year old Maldivian male admitted at HMF passed away at 04:47 am. This is the 197th death recorded in Maldives due to Covid-19.

246 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday out of the 4,788 samples taken. As per the HPA statistics, out of the new cases, 88 were from the Greater Malé area, while 137 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 13 cases from operational resorts, bringing the total active cases in the country to 11,041.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 70,077 out of which 58,832 patients have made full recoveries till date. Maldives has been slowly recovering from recovering from one of the worst waves since its first case of community spread in April 2020.

Currently, there are 97 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.
