Fire at Malé harbour causing major property damage

Malé, Maldives – A fire reported to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) around 06:13 today has caused major loss to property leaving one injured.

MNDF states that three launches docked at the harbour were on fire when they reached the location. The fire was stabilized by 06:16 and extinguished at 06:45.

The injured person was transferred to IGMH and is undergoing emergency care. Local news reports that the injured is a 20year old foreign man and 25 percent of his body is burnt.

Five launches received varying levels of damage due to the fire some as much as millions in losses.

Fire and Rescue Services are investigating the cause of the fire. MNDF has not released any further infirmation.
