COVID:19 – Maldives record 211 new cases

Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 211 new cases of Covid-19 in Maldives, from 3,415 samples taken. 

As per the agency, out of the new cases, 54 were from the Greater Malé area, while 132 cases were recorded from inhabited islands and 25 cases from operational resorts. With that, the total number of active cases has reached 5,403.

Maldives has recorded a total number of 71,709 Covid-19 cases, of which 66,090 patients have made full recoveries. 

The country has been slowly recovering from one of the worst waves since its first case of community spread in April 2020.

Currently, there are 46 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With the majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practising hand hygiene.

So far Maldives has recorded over 205 Covid-19 related fatalities since the pandemic began.
