Maldives records 2 Covid-19 deaths this morning

Malé, Maldives – Heath Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that two people have passed away due to Covid-19 this morning.

According to HPA, the first individual was a 55 year old Indian male who passed away at 01:30am at Hulhumalé Medical Facility. This is the 204th COVID-19 death in the Maldives.

The second casualty was of a 41 year old Maldivian male who passed away at 05:59 this morning. He was also receiving care at Hulhumalé Medical Facility when he passed away. This is the 205th COVID-19 death in the Maldives.

This comes while the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 71,498 out of which 65,178 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of June 18, 2021. 

While the number of cases have dropped significantly for the first time since May 2021, the active health facilities in the country are at risk of being overburdened with Covid-19 patients, the non-Covid-19 treatments are threatened to be hampered. Public health experts urge the public to adhere to safety measures like social distancing and wearing face masks.
