Health Ministry releases Mishka’s case report; admits negligence in a preventable death

Malé, Maldives – Health Ministry has just released the comprehensive case report on 10 year old girl’s death. The report admits to delays in every phase of Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) emergency care.

The DMRT doctor’s were unable to diagnose the critical status of the child, while the call logs confirm that following the DMRT doctor’s consultation, the call center communication indicated to the victim’s father that emergency care was dispatched to the child’s location.

No ambulances were triggered until the call at EMS at 23:32. The responders at EMS did not note the critical status of the child and did not convey the information to relevant parties.

The report also states that had all the relevant parties responded in a timely manner, this is a preventable death.

The Ministry report adds that the system was unable to handle the surge in Covid-19 cases and the system is in review.

Health Ministry assures that action will be taken against responsible parties. However, there is no indication of action being taken as of present.
