241 Committee inquiry aims for maximum information disclosure: Aslam

Malé, Maldives – The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security MP Mohamed Aslam said that the committee’s stance in the parliamentary investigation into the terror attack against Former President and Current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on May 6 is to publicise as much information as possible.

The statement comes from MP Aslam at a press conference from the 241 Committee today. He said that the work of finishing the report on the committee inquiry into the May terror attack is progressing at a fast pace and that they need an additional week to complete it. He noted that they aim to have finished the report by this month.

MP Aslam further said that the committee report is based on the information collected by the committee during the investigation and some of it includes information on national security. However, he added that they will be disclosing the information as much as possible.

Aslam also said that discussions are ongoing within the Committee on which of the information should be publicised, however have not come to a final decision. He added that the committee may decide to share some of the information with the President, Speaker and Chief Justice only.

He stressed that the stance of the committee is to publicize as much information as possible and that they will be able to finish off the committee report soon.
