Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has revealed that the institution is currently investigating an sexual assault case of an eight year old child.
Police Media Official informed that a sexual assault case of an eight year old was reported at an island in South Police Division (from Gnaviyani Atoll to Seenu Atoll) last night. While no one has been arrested yet regarding this case, Police stated that the case is being further investigated.
Stating that they refrained from revealing the child’s atoll and island for their safety, Police noted that the institution takes cases that include children very seriously.
The government has officially delineated rape and declared sexual abuse of children as serious criminal offences with the ratification of the Criminal Procedure Act, on 23rd September 2020.
