Addu City, Maldives – Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has revealed that six new case of COVID-19 were recorded in Hithadhoo, Addu City today.
Out of the six cases, three were from the Hithadhoo district and three from Maradhoo district. Five of them were locals and one was a foreigner.
With todays cases the total number of positive cases recorded in Addu City reached 464, out of which 129 cases remain active. Contact tacing efforts have identified, 352 direct contacts related to the postive cases so far.
AEH also revealed that from the active cases, a total of 122 are in Hithadhoo and 07 cases in Maradhoo.
Till date, 333 patients made full recoveries in Addu City.
The increased cases came from a cluster with over 17 confirmed cases identified in the Hithadhoo district on June 13, 2021.
Following the identification of this cluster, the Mayor of Addu City, Ali Nizar cautioned the people of Addu against having workers come in for domestic chores during this time, as contact tracing efforts are underway to determine the extent of the spread.
The additional cases today comes while Health Protection Agency (HPA) had decided to ease the curfew restrictions placed in Hithadhoo, Addu City, shortening the curfew hours From 16:00 till 04:00 today onward.
Initially, the curfew hours in Hithadhoo were from 16:00 till 08:00. However, as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases decreases in the island, HPA has decided to shorten the curfew time, along with easing some of the restrictions as well.
This includes allowing residents to go out without a household permit for essential purposes before the curfew. Along with allowing, restaurants and cafés to provide delivery services till 22:00. However, special permits are required to carry out delivery services during curfew hours.
HPA has also given residents of Hithadhoo permission to open shops till 16:00 and permission for construction workers and normal workers, who are given permission from Hithadhoo S.S.D, to work from morning 07:00 till 18:00.
While some restrictions were eased in Hithadhoo, congregational prayer gatherings in mosques are still not allowed in the island.
