WHO donates 11 GeneXpert Systems, 19,500 test kits for Maldives rapid response teams

Malé, Maldives – World Health Organization (WHO) has donated 6 Motorbikes, 11 GeneXpert Systems, 10 Autoclaves and additional 19,500 COVID-19 test kits to the Maldives Covid-19 response teams.

Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem represented Maldives while WHO representative to Maldives Dr. Nazneen Anwar signed on behalf of WHO.

With the additional 11 GeneXpert Systems donated by WHO, Covid-19 testing will be available in 18 atolls in the Maldives, while the 10 Autoclaves will facilitate disposing of medical waste in 10 additional atolls.

The Health Ministry of Maldives says that with the aid from WHO, the rapid response teams will be more efficient and speedy in future emergency response situations.

Since the onset of the pandemic in the Maldives, WHO has been continuously supplying the country with consumables, test kits and medical machinery.
