Malé, Maldives – Confidential information previously hidden in the 241 Committee report on their investigation into the terror attack against Former President and Current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on May 6, has been leaked.
The inquiry report compiled by the Parliament’s Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee) was publicized yesterday after redacting confidential information regarding national security.
The parliament publicised the report with black ink covering covering confidential information related to national security. However, the information has now been leaked.
“The Times of Addu” refrains from revealing the confidential segments of the report and how it got leaked as it might impact the national security of Maldives.
A special parliamentary meeting was convened last night to pass the inquiry report after taking into account the 45 amendments by members.
The passed amendments includes adjusting the level of security according to the intelligence of threat, implementing recommendations made after defence intelligence threat assessments, and conducting scheduled refresher training courses for members of Speaker Nasheed’s close protection team.
In addition, the close protection team is to be armed and on guard at all times with Speaker Nasheed. The speaker’s residence is to be monitored with CCTV cameras at all times and evacuation procedures and training are to be conducted. Nasheed is to have an armoured car with police at ready for emergencies.
The close protection team is to include an EOD specialist and the members of the team are to be vetted by the Defence Intelligence Service and Police Service.
