Malé, Maldives – The Islamic Ministry on Wednesday, has decided against mass prayers on Eid ul Adha.
Congregational prayers were temporarily stopped in the Greater Malé region on May 12, due to the worsening Covid-19 situation in the capital city, with record number of daily cases. This was the second time, mass prayers were stopped in the capital city.
However, with the decreasing number of Covid-19 cases, the ministry decided to commence congregational prayers in mosques.
Islamic Minister Dr. Fayyaz Ismail said giving information to local media Mihaaru, that the ministry has decided against organising mass prayers on Eid ul Adha as to obey HPA guidelines. He said that the purpose of not organising mass prayers is to prevent many people being congested in one place.
However, Minister said that Eid prayer will continue at all mosques in Malé that do the weekly Friday prayers. He added that eid prayers will take place in all Islands that are not under monitoring.
