Addu will also not hold Eid prayers in large congregation

Addu City, Maldives – Addu City has announced that it will also not be holding Eid al-Adha prayers in a large congregation in an open space, following a similar announcement by Male’ – a city overwhelmed by a rise of Covid-19 cases.

The announcement by Addu City Council read that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure against Covid-19, despite the city have no confirmed cases of the virus.

However, Eid al-Adha prayer will still continue in all mosques designated for Friday prayer in every district of Addu City. The announcement advised everyone to adhere to precautionary measures such as maintaining cleanliness, wearing masks and bringing personal prayer mats when going for Eid prayer.

While the initial decision to not hold prayers of this Eid in a large congregation in Male’ was taken by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, and largely due to the rise in numbers which saw a single day rise cases by 137, it was up to the respective local councils to take the decision for the rest of the Maldives.
