Malé, Maldives – Details of several persons have been sent to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) today over negligence in distributing Hiya flats by the former Government of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
According to local media outlet “Mihaaru”, ACC requested a committee, made by the incumbent government to inspect on how flats were distributed, to send details of the negligences that the committees notices.
Sources inform that the committee has sent multiple cases to the ACC over the negligence in distributing the flats, in different stages. ACC will be deciding on which employees will be prosecuted over what charges for using their position to receive flats. No details have been officially revealed regarding the matter yet.
Hiya flats are a social housing project commenced by the government of former President Yameen, in an attempt to give affordable living spaces to the citizens of Maldives. The project comprises the development of 7,000 flats, in the form of 16 towers of 25-storeys each in Hulhumalé Second Phase.
