Foreign Minister Shahid calls on Prime Minister Modi during his visit to India

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and President-elect of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid called on Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi on Friday.

During the meeting, Minister Shahid conveyed greetings and good wishes to Prime Minister Modi, the Government, and people of India, on behalf of President Solih and the Government, and people of the Maldives. Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the Indian Government for the continuous support and assistance offered to the Maldives, especially during COVID19 pandemic.

The Minister also thanked the Indian Government for the support rendered to the Maldives candidacy for the Presidency of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Minister Shahid briefed Prime Minister Modi on his priorities during 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and the main themes of the Presidency of Hope.

Minister Shahid was accompanied at the call by High Commissioner of Maldives to India Dr Hussain Niyaaz and Chef-de-Cabinet-designate of the Office of the President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly Ambassador Nagaraj Naidu.

The Minister is on an official visit to Delhi from 22-24 July 2021, on invitation of the Indian Government. This is his first visit in his official capacity as President-elect of the General Assembly.
