PG prosecutes man arrested in Addu for May 6 attack

Male’, Maldives – Prosecution is charging an individual arrested in Addu City over accusation of being involved in the terror attack against Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on May 06.

Local media outlet “Adhadhu” informs that a 33 year old individual from HA. Hoarafushi, Mohamed Thasleem, Alanaasige, has been arrested was arrested in a counter-terrorism operation and is now to be prosecuted for being involved in the terror attack against Speaker Mohamed Nasheed. Although the date of his arrest is unknown, the reason was to prevent the evidence against Thasleemu from being influenced.

Since the attack on Speaker Nasheed, a total of nine people were arrested from Addu City under the operation against extremism in the city. While some of the individuals were released later, they were taken into custody again under a court order.

On July 22, the Court granted remand till sentencing for three accused individuals of the terror attack from Male’ city. They are Mujaz Ahmed, Thahumeen Ahmed and Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed while a fourth suspect, Ali Haisham was remanded for 30 days.
