Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, today, participated in the commemorative flag hoisting ceremony to mark the occasion of the Maldives’ 56th Anniversary of Independence.
The ceremony was held at the Republic Square at 05:50, early on Monday morning.
Upon his arrival, President Solih was greeted by the Minister of Defense, Uza Mariya Ahmed Didi, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla. A special prayer was recited at the ceremony by Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Kareem.
First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Vice President Faisal Naseem and other senior government officials were in attendance at the ceremony.
The Maldives’ Independence Day is celebrated on the 26th of July each year.
