Male’, Maldives – Job Tribunal of the Maldives warns Maldives National University to not do anything that could jeopardize the employment of Dr. Mohamed Iyaz’s, an Islamic scholar who was dismissed from his Job at MNU, in case it has to be returned back to him.

Dr. Iyaz was dismissed from his job on July 1st over multiple issues including advocating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Dr. Iyaz recently requested the Job Tribunal to order MNU to not do anything that could jeopardize Dr. Iyaz’s job as he has a chance of receiving his job back, depending on the decision of Job Tribunal after they investigate the case reported by Dr. Iyaz against the university.

This is why, Job Tribunal has ordered MNU to not hire a permanent employee for the previous job of Dr. Iyaz until the Tribunal makes a decision and to not do anything that would jeopardize the employment of Dr. Iyaz in case the tribunal decides that he can get his job back.

While Dr. Iyaz has been under much heat for advocating FGM, he earlier tweeted in defence that he does not encourage FGM nor was he promoting it. Dr. Iyaz stated that he only tweeted regarding it as a response to a local who wished to know the opinion of Islamic religion on FGM.
