Male’, Maldives – Planning Ministry of Maldives was threatened on Saturday to leak data in an anonymous ransomware attack.

While majority of the computers in Planning Ministry has been restricted to operate due to the ransomware attack, most of the employees of the Ministry have also been contacted to take their day off as the attack on Ministry’s website has still not been solved.

Sources claimed that along with the Planning Ministry, the ransomware attack was targeted at other ministries as well. However, authorities have yet make any official statements on this.

Maldives Police Service has also refrained from revealing any information of the attack, therefore, the amount of ransom fee demanded from the Ministry in place of the data is still unknown.

A ransomeware attack is a type of malicious software (malware) that threatens to publish or blocks access to data or a computer system, usually by encrypting it, until the victim pays a ransom fee to the attacker.
