Male’, Maldives – Education Ministry of Maldives announced that the new academic year will begin with physical classes instead of online classes.
While Maldives has been resorting to online education classes for about one and a half year due to the worsening Covid-19 situation.,
However, the circular, signed by the Education Minister, Aishath Ali stated academic year will resume with physical classes and that the duration of school sessions will be the same as they were in the normal situations.
The circular noted that for the first two weeks classes will begin at allocated times for different grades for the school in Male’ area. Education Ministry stated that this was to reduce congestion as much as possible in the schools.
Although school sessions will be held physically and for normal hours, Education Ministry said that students are still required to adhere to certain guidelines such as using masks and fake shields when high risk students are present in the school.
Furthermore, both teachers and students who were abroad must present a negative PCR test within five to six days before going to school.
The beginning of the new academic year has been recently permanently changed to August 10 of each year upon the request made by the citizens, especially from parents who were working in the tourism sector and due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
