Male’, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a sexual abuse case of a 14-year-old girl from the capital Male’ city.
Media Official of Police stated that a report of sexual abuse against a 14 year old girl was received on August 6.
Although Police has not confirmed that they have arrested the perpetrator, social media posts show the perpetrator being taken into Police custody.
Additionally, various sources claimed that the perpetrator was a family member of the victim who often visits the child’s home.
While there have been an alarming increase in rape cases and violence against women and children recently, the public has protested multiple times over the fact that victims of such cases do not get justice in Maldives.
