Malé, Maldives – Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced that citizens can start using the Hiya flats in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 from August 17 onwards.
Speaking at a television program, Managing Director of HDC, Suhail Ahmed stated that once the electricity is installed in the flats after August 17, citizens can start using the Hiya flats. Suhail also mentioned that as several citizens have presented to bring changes to the flats, they are currently trying to provide the suggested changes to the structure of the flats.
Once the electricity is permanently installed in Hiya flats, Suhail informed that the construction of commercial unit will begin and noting that people will begin to live in the flats soon after they are open for use, HDC gave assurance that basic services will be available from phase 2 soon.
Hiya flats are a social housing project commenced by the government of former President Yameen, in an attempt to give affordable living spaces to the citizens of Maldives.Without the down payment, the current government has decided that the monthly rate would be MVR 7,500 for the 6,270 flats. Agreements are already being signed with respective owners along with handing over the keys to their apartments as well.
