COVID-19: Islands under monitoring drop to 9!

Malé, Maldives – Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) informed today that the number of islands under monitoring for the Covid-19 virus has dropped to 9.

This is the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic escalation in May 2021, that the number of cases dropped to single digits.

The islands under monitoring for the longest duration till present are R. Dhuvaafaru and K. Kaashidhoo. While R. Dhuvaafaru has been under monitoring since May 25, K. Kaashidhoo was placed on 13 July. The most recent island to be placed under monitoring status due to Covid-19 cases is Th. Hirilandhoo, placed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of new cases recorded as of yesterday are 116, with 19 cases recorded in the Greater Malé area and 84 in the inhabited islands. 13 cases were reported from operational resorts in the Maldives.

There are 2,321 active cases in the country from 6,036 sampled tested in the past 24 hours. Only 22 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the hospitals.

Maldives is resuming Covid-19 vaccination with a large scale campaign with 332,816 people vaccinated with the first dose and 287,599 with the second dose.
