Covid-19 situation escalates in Southern Maldives

Addu City, Maldives – The Covid-19 situation in the southern Maldives escalates as Addu City and Fuvahmulah City records increasing number of positive cases daily.

The Addu Emergency Operations Center reveals that over the past 24 hours, Addu City confirmed five Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of active cases in the city to 149; 87 cases in Maradhoo, 39 cases in Maradhoofeydhoo, 12 cases in Feydhoo and 11 cases in Hithadhoo.

While four of the confirmed cases were of direct contacts, AEOC informs that the remaining one case was a random sample.

With this, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases has risen to 738, out of which only 587 people have complete recovered from the virus. To date, only one Covid-19 death was recorded in Addu City.

On the other hand, Fuvahmulah City Council informs that the island will be once again placed under monitoring status due to rising number of Covid-19 cases. The Council however did not reveal the exact number of active cases currently present in Fuvahmulah.
