Judiciary Committee summons PG Shameem over Yameen Rasheed’s murder case

Male’, Maldives – Parliament’s Judiciary Committee this Monday decided to summon Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem over the murder case of blogger Yameen Rasheed.

A member of Judiciary Committee confirmed that the Judiciary Committee will be summoning PG Shameem on Wednesday to clarify some information regarding the murder case of Yameen Rasheed. Along with this, PG Shameem is also being summoned to share the concerns of many committee members and to share the multiple concerns raised by Yameen Rasheed’s sister on June, 2021 over the murder case.

Yameen Rasheed was murdered on April 23, 2017. He was found at the stairs of his residence with extreme injuries from a sharp object. He was killed due to a religious conflict, according to Police and Death Commission.

According to the present scheduled table, the next hearing to speak about the proof’s on Yameen’s case will be held on September 16 at 13:00. Followed by the hearing for the testimonies of Yameen’s inheritor on October 14 at 09:00. While the closing statement of the case has been scheduled to be held on November 18 at 09:00, according to the law, a verdict must be made within 30 days of the closing statement.

If the hearings proceed as scheduled in the table, a verdict on Yameen’s case must be made before December 18, 2021.
